Field Test at BLG for the Evaluation of the Driverless Transport System in Combination with the Interactive Smartphone App in the Warehouse and Assembly Line

In the pursuit of increased efficiency and technological advancement, BLG is currently conducting a field test. This test evaluates the interaction between a Driverless Transport System (FTS) and an interactive smartphone app, which is used both in the warehouse and on the assembly line. The FTS automatically follows employees’ requests via the smartphone app during picking in the warehouse in the so-called “Follow-Me Mode”. After completing the picking process and creating a pick list, the FTS transports the materials to the stations in the assembly area. The picked goods are automatically assigned to the respective Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs).

In the assembly area, employees can then intuitively request the automatic transport of materials to their respective workstations by scanning the VIN work orders using the smartphone app. The materials for the assembly order are subsequently delivered to the assembly station by the FTS and placed at an ergonomically favorable height for retrieval using a lift table.

The field test runs over several weeks and involves operational staff who evaluate the functionality and efficiency of the driverless transport system as well as the user-friendliness of the smartphone app. These tests are crucial for optimizing the interaction between the developed systems. The focus is on the interplay between the exoskeleton with incentive platform, the FTS, and the smartphone app.
